What is another name for the word difference, in a subtraction problem?

my math teacher is telling us to find the original names for all the steps in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. He gave us one hint that the answer of a subtraction problem in not the difference. I’ve looked everywhere but can’t find the answer. help!

The result of an addition is a sum.
The result of a substraction is a difference.
The result of a multiplication is a product.
The result of a division is a quotient.
