I figured out what …
I figured out what the problem was 300uso, I had been using the lathe modifier, and when I had done so I did not make it a solid object, to fix this I selected “fuse core” and then converted it to a editable poly. Do make very sure that the geometry if not two sided is facing the correct direction. To do this apply a material or texture and see if it shows when you do a render.
If it doesn’t, click on the lathe modifier and select “Flip normals”
Then try the Boolean.
Hope this helps.

Ok, I have a …
Ok, I have a problem. Pretty new to max, when I subtract A-B it takes the B away fine, but then it doesn’t leave any geometry on the outsides of the object that remains. In other words, my bishop has the cut part out, but there are no polygons on the inside so it is hollow!
I cannot figure out what I’m doing wrong, any insight would be appreciated, thanks. 3ds MAX design 2009 32bit

Just an extra tip …
Just an extra tip here fellas I learned yesterday. If you add more lines to your geometry, ya know, increase the length and width segments before the boolean, the geometry will come out much smoother.
I need to get the ProApp that does the boolean operation but leaves much cleaner geometry.

At 1:01, you can see that, yes it worked, but it leaves a tiny bit of unwanted geometry.
