I've been working in a class of fourth graders this semester, and they have weekly timed multiplication tests up to 9x9. They have 2 minutes to do them, and 40 questions per sheet. Twice I have been there for the 'big' test, which is 100 questions in 5 minutes. Of the students in the class, about 80% finish the 2 minute drills, and about 20% of them have successfully passed (0 or 1 wrong) the 100 question test. So that is where your son would need to be next year to fall in with the rest of a Midwest American class.
