How many multiplication questions should a 3rd grader be able to answer in a minute?
I’m giving my son timed multiplication tests (up to 12’s). He can do them, but isn’t fluent yet. How fast should he be expected to do them (X number in a minute or 100 questions in X minutes). Thanks!
According to the web site www.multiplication.com, they should be able to complete 40 problems in three minutes. The website offers tips to help in teaching multiplication. It is very helpful. I hope you find all the information you need there!

I’ve been working in a class of fourth graders this semester, and they have weekly timed multiplication tests up to 9×9. They have 2 minutes to do them, and 40 questions per sheet. Twice I have been there for the ‘big’ test, which is 100 questions in 5 minutes. Of the students in the class, about 80% finish the 2 minute drills, and about 20% of them have successfully passed (0 or 1 wrong) the 100 question test. So that is where your son would need to be next year to fall in with the rest of a Midwest American class.
