LOKAL93 what he did ...
LOKAL93 what he did was find the greatest number that goes into both the 15 and the 5 first. You do not just divide to find out. but that was a very good attempt.

5 goes into 15, 3 times. 5 goes into 5, 1 time. This is how he came up with the 3 and the 1.

2 goes into both 14 and 4. 2 goes into 14, 7 times. 2 goes into 4, 2 times. This is how he came up with 7 and 2.

I agree with ...
I agree with rudeawakening101.This way makes u believe that 5 goes into to 15 3 times, which it does. Then when you look at 4 and 14,this can be confusing. I wld do 15/5 1st and reduce it, so 5 is common in both, u do 15/5=3, then 5/5=1. Then reduce 14/4, coz 2 is common in both, u do 14/2=7, then
4/2=2. now just multiply the numerator then the denomenator. hope this helps.

The cross canceling ...
The cross canceling method can lead to major errors and is very sloppy. A much better way (and a way to guarantee the correct answer) is to use the prime factorization for every number in the numerator and denominator. That way you can SEE what you are canceling, and you are sure to get the answer correct 100% of the time.
