It depends on the teacher or the textbook. The safest thing is to multiply out the parenthesis, but check with your teacher on his/her preference.

You can in this case. But if you’re not sure when it’s ok to cross multiply and when it’s not ok, it’s much safer to do it the long way as shown in the video.
