Thursday, October 8th, 2009

yh this is a retard question but i use various methods which arent atall helpful to figure out multiplication such as 65 * 32.7
i know theres something called short division or something i dont know how to do it but can someone guide me , i think it looks a bit like this when u set it out…
123
32
____

and then u do something like times the 1 by the 3 the 2 by something id ont know plz help me im in the top group for maths in yr 9 but this is the only that i cant remember how to fiure out or work out someone guide me, cheerS!!

write the number with higher number of digits at the top

3 2 . 7

x 6 5
———-
1 6 3 5 (First multiply 5 with 7, then with 2 and then with 3)

19 6 2 0 (write 0 below the right most digit, which is 5, then multiply 6 with 7, then with 2, then with 3. take care of carry)

Then add

3 2 . 7

x 6 5
———-
1 6 3 5 (First multiply 5 with 7, then with 2 and then with 3)

19 6 2 0
————-
21 2 5 5
————-

since, there is one decimal point in 32.7, thus, final result

= 2125.5

I need help solving linear equations using multiplication and division? Here are some Q’s that i have on my algebra book that i need to do? Also please try to write the algorithm and explain how you did it.

1)7y=-6

2)-4n=24

3)10x=110

4)-10x=-9

Your goal is to get the variable by itself. In example one the variable is y, 7y=-6. You can achieve this by dividing both sides by 7. You get (7y)/7=-6/7 The two sevens on the left cancel out equaling 1,and you get y=-6/7.

On two, -4n=24, the variable is n. You need to remove the -4, so you divide both sides by -4. (-4n)/-4=24/-4. the -4’s on the left cancel out equaling 1, and 24/-4=-6, so you get n=-6

To do a fraction e.g. p/4=2, you would think about it as (1/4)p=2 and divide both sides by 1/4. ((1/4)p)/(1/4)=2/(1/4) to divide by a fraction you find the inverse and multiply, so you get (4/1)(1/4)p=2(4/1). The (4/1)(1/4) cancel out equaling 1, and on the right you get 8/1. p=8

What are some synonyms for multiplication and division?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Like my last question, I’m writing an essay for math, and I’ve overused the words ‘multiplication’ and ‘division’ so I’d like some alternatives for it.

There really aren’t any synonyms for multiplication and division. If you think you’ve used the words too frequently, you might have to re-write the essay to avoid the problem. (But I haven’t seen your previous question.)

can someone show me create a C program that displays a multiplication table, with 5rows and 5 columns?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Create a C program that displays multiplication tables, with 5rows and 5columns. The table data should be right aligned, and row and
column index numbers should be displayed. The
program must also support generating multiple tables, until the user chooses to exit the
program.
thanks nonono, maybe i should have put up my code so someone would help correct it, i didnt think of dat maybe i would have gotten an answer but anyway i figured it out myself. so thanks guys for nothing..lol

easy to go , just declare 2 variables, put them in 2 loops with a counter to 5, a loop inside another, multiply the values and print them … good luck

What is the answer to the following multiplication using significant digits?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

What is the answer to the following multiplication using significant digits?
(4.25)(2.0)

8.5
8.50
8.02
7.5

You multiplied a number with 3 significant figures by a number with 2 significant figures. As a result, your answer can only be accurate to the number with the least amount of significant figures. So the answer is 8.5.

Easy multiplication tricks that work with any numbers?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I have been searching the net and youtube for easy multiplication tricks that allow you to multiply either small or large numbers but can’t find one that works with both. A test that I have coming up will have multiples of ten (eg: 66×72 =) and multiples of one hundred (eg: 448×717=) and possibly multiples of a thousand.

Is there one fail proof easy method for calculating such numbers in a short amount of time?

There is a kind of problem called a "cluster problem", which is usually how I do problems like you are describing. There are also other great techniques.
