pq = -p/2 +-*SQUARE(-p/2)^2 - q
pq = x^2+px+q = 0

The problem with using the quadratic formula is that students forget that two minuses equal a plus, as does minus times minus.

9{-4(1)(-4)} so negative 4 times 1 is -4. -4 times -4 is positive 16 [THIS IS HOW HE GOT 16]
