Algebra: Introduction to Algebra
[NOTE: This video is only the first 11 minutes of the full lesson, please visit my website to purchase complete version] This lesson consists of providing you with a Self-Tutorial on what is algebra, what are variables, constants, coefficients, terms, and expressions. The tutor explains the use of proper notation, how to combine like terms, find the negation of an algebraic expression, how to evaluate an expression (by hand and by using your calculator), and finally, there is a VERY detailed section on how to translate English phrases into algebraic expressions.

This is a wonderful …
This is a wonderful video. I am thankful to find all this information online for FREE as I really need this information to pass the GED! I am not the best math student around. In fact I am a horrible math student and I did not pay attention to math in elementary and high school and now I need to catch WAY up in math. I sure wish there videos like this for Chemistry, Physics and Geometry.

Sure, I can give …
Sure, I can give you an example, don’t know why the others can’t. I work in a laboratory and we use complex math to analyze chemical properties. If you like science you will use math. My brother uses math to calculate financial data as an accountant. A friend of mine uses math to code computer programs. Engineers use math. The bottom line is math = money. I used math when I was moving, so I knew what size truck to rent. Hope this answers your question.

This is an …
This is an introduction video to Algebra. I doubt much of it will be encountered in the Real World. This usually does not happen until much later. I find it interesting students always ask this question. When are you going to use the fact Columbus “discovered” America in 1492 in the real world? Never, but you should learn it anyway. When are you going to talk about prepositions? Never, but you should learn proper grammar. Math makes you smarter. It helps you become a better problem solver.

Wait how is 4 and -5 the same terms aren’t they different? What do you mean by all coefficients are the same do you mean it works for all the terms in algebra if the constant are alone or something else?

Well, I just gave …
Well, I just gave it a “Thumb’s Up,” so that should help. I don’t think it is racism, but rather ignorance. People forget we owe a huge debt to the Arab culture for many things in our lives. They instead just think of the negative. I hope teachers do more on their part to spread the POSITIVE influence the Arab world (and other non-western cultures) has done for us. Only then can hatred be abolished.
