Say you were in an airplane and you were going downwards at a rate of 5m/s. This is the same as going UP at -5m/s.

To figure out the altitude of the plane 30 seconds ago, you would need to multiply by -30 seconds. (Displacement = Velocity x Time)

(-30 sec) x (-5 m/s) = 150 m

i.e. You were 150 metres higher, 30 seconds ago.</description>
