What is good to serve for lunch in addition to soup?
I am having about 15 people over for lunch this Sunday. I am making two types of soup: Broccoli Cheddar and Jalapeno Corn Chowder and also having bread/biscuits. My husband thinks we should have something else in addition to the soup so I am looking for suggestions as to what would pair good with these soups. The majority of the guests are vegetarians, so please no meat suggestions
A simple salad would accompany the soup well. try to avoid overloading it with cheese or all that stuff bc you want the salad to be a contrast to the thick soups.

A simple mixed green salaed with a nice vinaigrette. Both soups are a little rich, so a nice salad would be great on the side.

How about going to your supermarket’s deli department and order party trays. They have a booklet that you can look through and then place your order. You can pick them up the day of your party. They have all types of party trays such as:
Finger sandwiches,
Regular sandwiches,
Man sandwiches,
Fruits,
Cheeses,
Cheese and meats,
Chicken wings,
Shrimp,
Crab,
Pinwheels,
Vegetables & dip,
Desserts of all types,
The list goes on and on.

Hi Ballerina, you cant go far wrong with a pasta dish. easy to make cheap and will go a long way. A simple pasta shell with a cheese sauce oven roasted tomatoes. and good crusty warm bread.Filling and will keep the cold out. I hope that helps. All the best. Rab

I think little watercress sandwiches would be nice, with a little cream cheese softened. Bread is always good with soup, I’m guessing your husband isn’t vegetarian, and thinks it won’t be enough… (smiling). Also you could make a panini type sandwich with roasted peppers and roasted zuccini with a little mayo and cheese. You don’t need a press, you can weigh it down with just about anything.
Good Luck
I love the Pepperidge Farm White sandwich bread for these occassions. It’s really yummy, but dense; you could make a sandwich in advance and the bread will hold up, then cut them in square. Egg salad would be good, Vegeterians, not Vegans, right?
My final suggestion: ask your husband what he has in mind
